“You already have enough to start.”
Art, for me, is about having fun, finding flow, and expressing what’s inside, not about having the perfect tools or the newest supplies.
The Use What You Have Art Challenge 2026 is an invitation to slow down, open your drawers, and reconnect with the creative materials you already own. It’s about rediscovering forgotten supplies, embracing imperfection, reducing waste, and letting creativity, not consumption, lead.
Participants commit to not purchasing new art supplies for a chosen period of time and instead create art using:
Art supplies already on hand
Found or recycled materials
Materials swapped with friends
Donated or secondhand materials
You choose your level of commitment:
1 month
3 months
6 months
The full year (January–December 2026)
There is no required medium, style, or output. This challenge honors process over perfection.
Many of us collect art supplies with the best intentions, inspired by possibility, hope, and creativity. Over time, those supplies can become clutter, guilt, or pressure to create something worthy of them.
This challenge exists to shift that energy.
By placing a pause on buying, we create space for:
Play instead of pressure
Flow instead of perfectionism
Curiosity instead of comparison
Sustainability instead of excess
Making art because it feels good
This is a gentle challenge, not a punishment. There is no falling behind, no failing, and no right way to participate.
To support your practice, optional monthly themes are offered throughout 2026. These prompts focus on mindset, not output:
Create something inspired by what you already have.
Focus on exploration, not finished pieces.
Limit yourself to 3 materials.
Notice how limitation fuels creativity.
Use something you almost threw away.
Packaging, scraps, old papers, broken tools.
You can follow all prompts or ignore them completely. Your challenge, your rules.

Make your personal commitment (public or private)

Hi, I’m Jyenny.
I’m an artist who believes creativity should feel nourishing, playful, and human. I created this challenge because I wanted to reconnect with my own art practice, without pressure, guilt, or the urge to buy my way into inspiration.
In 2026, I’m personally committing to a full year of creating with what I already have and sharing my process, experiments, and reflections along the way.
You’re invited to join for any length of time that feels supportive.
You already have enough to start.
Pull out what you have. Make a little mess. Follow what feels interesting. Share if you want, keep it private if you don’t.
Art is about expression, not accumulation.
I’d love for you to join me.
